the riding-mate app for mountain bikers

never ride alone.

plus1 is live, and it's free. find riders near you, keep your bike running, and know how the trails are riding before you drop in.

free. no ads. no algorithm. made in the forest of dean.

what it's for

muddy rides. coffee after. people to ride with.

four muddy riders laughing over coffee outside a trail-centre café three riders laughing as they splash through a big puddle mud-splattered riders grinning round a café table four riders stopped side by side on a muddy fire road, laughing over the shoulder: a rider checking the rides list in plus1 while his mates wait with their bikes riders leaning in over a phone at a café table three riders walking their bikes back at dusk, arms round each other
reason one

find other riders.

three ways in: a feed of rides you can join this week, a live view of who's out right now, and riding mates — the people you'd actually ride with again.

who's out, right now

someone's out riding. no peeking.

heading out? tap one big button, say where you're riding and for how long. riders who are also out see roughly where you are — a 1 km square, never a pin on you.

not out yet? you'll see how many riders are about, over a blurred map of your patch. go out yourself and the map clears. you see them, they see you. fair's fair.

  • flag it for 1, 2 or 4 hours — it ends on its own
  • your exact location never leaves your phone
  • mates you've accepted can see when you head out
no peeking: a blurred map with 3 riders out near you
heading out form: where you're riding and how long
riding mates

keep the good ones.

met someone decent on a ride? add them as a riding mate. it's mutual — nothing happens until they say yes — and from then on you'll know when they head out, even when you're sat at home wondering whether to bother.

riders show as chris m., not just another chris, so you know who you're looking for in the car park.

  • a nudge when a mate goes out: “tom just went out · cannop”
  • message your mates any time, not only when you're both out
  • block and report are one tap, and nobody's told
riding mates: mutual and approved both ways, nobody follows you quietly
reason two

a free bike garage.

garage

maintain your ride. never miss a thing.

add your bike — over 900 are already listed, e-bikes and the rest, with their motor, fork, shock, groupset and brakes filled in. tell plus1 your miles (e-bikes: straight off the display) and every part gets a clear bar: fine, coming up, due.

it knows a hard-chrome t-type chain outlasts a basic one, that e-bikes chew drivetrains, and that a wet winter wears everything faster. so the chain gets done before it takes the cassette with it, and the fork service doesn't slip another season.

  • chain, cassette, pads, tyres, fork and shock services, pivots, bleeds, the e-bike system
  • a reminder on the day something's due — nothing else
  • “doesn't need replacing yet” when you've checked and it's fine
  • set any part's life in one tap if you know better
  • show your bike on your profile, or keep it private

reason three

local trail knowledge, while you ride.

near you

out on the trails? here's what the locals know.

go out on active now and plus1 opens up what's around you, within about five kilometres: how the trails are riding today, from riders who were just on them — fresh loam, running great, muddy, closed.

found one running perfect? call it epic, and riders out nearby see it at the top of their list for four months. plus the café for after, the nearest bike shop, a bike wash, a repair stand.

  • trail reports last 48 hours, so it's never last month's news
  • “still epic” from another rider keeps a trail on the list
  • cafés, bike shops, washes, repair stands and e-bike charging
  • only while you're out — riders who are out only, that's the perk
near you: trail reports from today, cafés and bike shops, only while you're out
epic trails: found one running perfect? call it epic
what it is

a feed of rides happening near you.

plus1 is built around one loop — someone posts a ride, you see it in your feed, you tap to join. that's it. no group admin, no chasing whatsapp threads, no missing the start because you didn't see the message.

01

post a ride

where you're starting, when, what level, what kind of ride. drop a map pin. say who's already coming and how many spots are open — plus1 adds it up for you.

02

see who's out

your feed shows what's on this week, by area, discipline and skill. each ride leads with how many spots are left, and a ride that's already rolling says on now.

03

show up

tap join. you'll get a reminder the day before and an hour out, a pin that opens in your maps app, and a comments thread for the ride.

what's new

more reasons to open the app.

plus1 started as a feed of rides. it keeps getting small, useful things — the sort you notice the second time you use them.

posting a ride

who's riding, in plain numbers.

say how many mates are already coming and how many spots you want to fill. plus1 does the sum — you + 2 mates + 3 spots = a group of 6 — so nobody has to guess what "up to 6" means.

riders browsing the feed see what matters to them first: 3 spots left. and a ride that's started stays on upcoming, marked on now, until it's finished.

post a ride form: who's riding, with you, mates and spots

somewhere new to ride, and someone to ride it with.

been there colours in the riding areas you've explored across the uk, then points you at the next one. and when the forecast's good, a pop-up ride appears near you — three in, and someone steps up to host.

been there: 12 of 57 riding areas, where next?
pop-up rides: sun's out, there's a pop-up

and if someone's out of order: block ends it both ways and they're never told, report sends it to a local moderator. both are one tap, from anywhere a rider's name appears.

made for riders

the little things that get you out.

every ride has a pin that opens in your maps app. ride again with the same crew in two taps. after the ride, the host posts a photo and a line and it lands on your done tab. and local moderators keep it friendly.

why it was born

i built the app i wanted to use.

three mates riding side by side along a misty forest track, a sunday loop

i was tired of riding alone. mostly because the trail's better with people — but also because riding solo isn't always safe, and after a long week the last thing you need is another quiet sunday in your own head. so i built plus1.

it started as a thing for me and a few mates in the forest. a sunday loop, a midweek blast, an "i'm at cannop, anyone around?" — without the friction of starting yet another whatsapp group. no algorithm, no engagement loop. just a feed of real rides that real people are actually going on.

if it works for the forest, it'll work anywhere there are trails and riders.

how to get it

plus1 is live.

out now on the app store and google play. free, no ads, no algorithm.

iphone

the full app — rides, riding mates, active now, garage and messages — on the app store.

download on theapp store

android

on google play. free to download — it installs and updates like any other app.

build the network

plus1 only works if people are on it.

that's the honest bit. a ride-sharing app with nobody on it is just an empty feed. and it's genuinely tough having no one to ride with — most of us have had that saturday where you've got the bike on the car and nobody to go with.

the only fix is more riders near you. so if plus1 has got you out on a ride, pass it on — to the mate who's just got back into it, to the one in your local group who always ends up riding alone, to the person who keeps saying they'd come if someone asked.

share the app. give the gift of community.

faqs

questions, before you ask.

when does it launch?

it already has. plus1 is out now on the app store for iphone. android is out now on google play too.

is it free?

yes. plus1 is free to download and free to use. there's no premium tier, no ads, and we don't sell your data. if it ever costs anything, it'll be a small "support the app" thing — never a paywall on rides.

what's the garage?

a service tracker for your bike, inside the app. pick your bike (or add your own), give it your miles — or a rough idea of how much you ride — and plus1 shows which parts are fine, coming up or due, with a reminder on the day something needs doing.

it's built on real service intervals from the part makers, adjusted for e-bikes, wet riding and your chain lube. every number is a best guess, so you can tell it when a part's still fine, or set where a part is in its life yourself. it's in the app on iphone and android.

does active now share my location?

only roughly, only while you're out, and only with riders who are out too (or mates you've accepted). your phone rounds your position to about a square kilometre before anything is sent — plus1 never sees or shows your exact spot, and your session ends on its own.

if you're not out, you see how many riders are about over a blurred map. nobody's area reaches your phone until you go out yourself.

do i have to be an experienced rider?

not at all. every ride is tagged with a skill level (beginner → expert) and a vibe (chill / club / casual / performance) so you know what you're showing up to. plenty of "chill" beginner rides being posted.

and if you're not sure — message the host in the comments thread before you commit.

what disciplines does it support?

mtb, trail, enduro, downhill, xc, gravel, emtb, and road. tag your ride and the right people will see it in their feed.

how do i find the start?

three ways. there's a map pin on every ride that opens in your maps app, a what3words address for precision (down to the 3-metre square), and a "how to find us" notes field where the host can describe the meet — "blue van by the cattle grid", that kind of thing.

hosts can also add a whatsapp group invite link for live coordination on the day.

can i post a ride if i'm not technically the leader?

yep. plus1 doesn't care about hierarchy. if you've got a route in mind and you'd like company, post it. if no-one shows, you ride solo — same as you would have anyway.

what about safety?

safety is one of the reasons plus1 exists. riding with people is safer than riding solo — full stop. but we also won't pretend the app does it for you: meet in public, share a what3words with someone at home, and trust your judgement on who you ride with. local moderators look after each area, and block and report are one tap away.

do you sell my data?

no. plus1 stores the bare minimum needed to make the app work — your email, the rides you post, who's attending, the comments, and the bikes you add to your garage. no analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party ad networks.

full detail in the privacy policy.

where can i give feedback?

email hello@plus1app.uk. it goes straight to me. small team — actually small, like one person small.
